Gerrit Rietveld Red and Blue Chair by Cassina

Gerrit Rietveld Red and Blue Chair by Cassina

The Red and Blue chair was originally designed in 1918 by Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld, one of the leading figures of the De Stijl movement.

This striking lounge chair features a black-stained beech frame combined with a blue lacquered seat and a red lacquered backrest. The use of primary colors pays homage to the work of painter Piet Mondrian, transforming the chair into a three-dimensional composition that bridges furniture and abstract art.

Produced by and marked Cassina, the chair is a faithful interpretation of Rietveld’s original design. Over the years, the Red and Blue has become one of the most celebrated design classics from the Netherlands, an enduring icon of modernism and a landmark in 20th-century furniture history.
