Tobia Scarpa Cream Wool Fabric "Bastiano" 2-Seater Sofa for Knoll, 1960s, Italy

Tobia Scarpa Cream Wool Fabric "Bastiano" 2-Seater Sofa for Knoll, 1960s, Italy

Two-seater sofa was produced by Knool in 1960s and designed by Tobia Scarpa.
Mid-Century Modern period Italian design item.
Tobia Scarpa designed the Bastiano series for the experimental design laboratory of Gavina in 1960. About the result Gavina said it "exploited Le Corbusier's idea of free cushions in order to make a modern sofa" this time in wood. The sofa is very comfortable as it has thick cushions that fall into the frame. The frame therefore functions as a basket that holds the thick, comfortable cushions together.
Solid Wenge supporting frame.
The seating cushions are still in good condition but we can reupholster them with any fabric you like
Also we have a second one available that needs reupholstering
